This history of The Village Players is based on the following source material: [1] A history published in 1959 [2] Two versions of this same history as reprinted in the 50th [1973] and 60th [1983] anniversary programs. [3] A priceless 5" x 8" 3-ring binder in which the minutes from Board of Director meetings [February 13, 1924 - June 2, 1928] have been carefully typed on lined notebook paper.
It has been independently verified that the Village Players is the third oldest community theatre in Michigan [according to the Community Theatre Association of Michigan] and ranks among the 50 oldest theatre groups in the US [according to the American Association of Community Theatre].
History:
The Village Players was founded in 1923 as a nonprofit theater club and was later reorganized as a community theater and a 501 (c) (3) organization. It is the third oldest community theater in Michigan and ranks among the 50 oldest theater groups in the United States.
