History
For the first time in 67 years, a woman presides over the Thibodaux Rotary Club. In July 2003, Rita Hebert Dickie became the club's first female president. Dickie's leadership highlights the evolution of the former strictly old boys club, which was chartered on May 21, 1936.
The first president of the original club was the Thibodaux mayor, Charles E. Delas. Surrounding Delas were officers O.C. Robichaux, Robert H. Dolese, D.D.S. and W.L. Martin. The club's 15 members included Harvey Peliter, who was former Governor Huey Long's senate floor leader and was arguably the most powerful political figure in Lafourche Parish history.
