The Coastal Plain Regional Library was born during a time of intense regional library system development guided by the Public Library Services Unit of the Georgia Department of Education. Effective September 1, 1956, the chairman of the library boards of Tift, Berrien, Irwin, Turner and Cook counties signed a participating agreement forming the regional library.The first regional director was Mr. Philip S.
