Town of Bargersville History:
The Town of Bargersville was originally located six miles west of Franklin, Indiana. Bargersville was also initially located in Sections 1 and 2 of Union Township and was laid out in February of 1850.

Bargersville was named as a compliment to Jefferson Barger who was the proprietor.

As it was originally surveyed, Bargersville consisted of (13) lots of various sizes. In June of 1850, five lots were added to the first plat by Peter D. Jacobs. Christian Kegley, in June of 1853, added another nine lots. In 1876, Bargersville boasted a population of 873, a school, church and post office.

In 1905, the Illinois Central Railroad, then known as the Indianapolis Southern Railroad, extended through Johnson County and provided impetus to the building and town improvements of Bargersville. A new area of Bargersville developed almost overnight as a result of the railroad extension. The nucleus of the village then moved from the existing intersection to along the railroad and into White River Township.

In 1920, Bargersville was incorporated and continues to be a thriving community that is among the fastest growing areas in the county.
