Village of Aurora

About Us:

Aurora is a small college town of approximately 700 people on the east shore of Cayuga Lake. The entire village is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its houses date from the 1790’s to the present and follow a typical village pattern of some large lots, some small, accommodating a wide spectrum of economic levels with apartments and single family homes.  Aurora has village water and sewer, as well as cable and broadband access. There’s a very active public library and cultural events brought to the Morgan Opera House and to Wells College.  Within Village limits there are two parks and several places of public access to the lake.  The Village is surrounded by farmland and is definitely rural living with many city advantages.  Our major employers are Wells College, the Inns of Aurora, and McKenzie-Childs, a high-end hand-painted ceramics company just outside of the Village, but many residents commute to Ithaca, Geneva, Syracuse, Auburn, or Rochester.  There is easy and quick access to the NYS Thruway and to Route 81, as well as to the airports at Ithaca, Syracuse, and Rochester.
