The Village of Greenup is a non-home rule unit, which operates under a President and Board of Trustee form of government. The Village Council is comprised of the Mayor, Village Clerk and six trustees who are elected for four-year terms. The Village Treasurer and the Department Heads are all appointed with the consent of the Village Council.
The Village Council meets formally on the 1st Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The Mayor and each Trustee is responsible for administering the functions of a certain department. The nine departments are: Health, Finance, Street and Alley, Sewer and Water, Electricity, Fire, Building and grounds, Gas, and Law and Order. The Village Clerk is responsible for all personnel functions (excluding Police, Ambulance and Fire) pertaining to the Village.
There are currently thirteen full time and three part-time and seasonal employees. The Village has an operating proposed budget of approximately $4,362,200.00. The population of the Village is 1616 as of the 1990 Census.
