Named after General George Washington, Washington County, Alabama is rich in history - the first chartered school, the state's first bank, location of the first territorial capital, and the first county of Alabama. Effort is under way by the Washington County Historical Society and Washington County Museum Board to preserve the artifacts and legends that reveal the historical treasures within the county.
