Mission Statement
The Washington County Health Department has the responsibility for administering those functions necessary to protect the health of the citizens of Washington County. It is concerned predominantly and primarily with disease prevention and control and other services that are necessary to ensure optimal health status of the community.
History
The Washington County Health Department was formed by resolution of the Washington County Board of February 11, 1992. This department became the 81st county municipality to implement a health department.
On February 23, 1993, the Illinois Department of Public Health's program review was completed at the Washington County Health Department to evaluate the agency's programs in accordance with the 1990 Local Health Department Program Standards Code.
All of the required programs were approved. Based on these results, the Washington County Health Department was designated a Certified Health Department in the state fiscal year 1993.
