The Police Department is located within the 2.5 square mile historic Village of Washingtonville The staff of fourteen full time police officers, seven part time police officers, three full time police dispatchers and six part time police dispatchers, maintain a professional twenty four hour police department. The Washingtonville Police Department is solely responsible for the enforcement of laws within the Village and handles a variety of Law Enforcement functions and calls for service as indicated on the charts below. In 1992, our department instituted the use of computers to generate and document police records.
The Village of Washingtonville Police Department is committed to improving the education of our youth regarding the many issues that face them daily. In 1991, the DARE program, Drug Abuse Resistance Education was implemented in the schools by our department’s D.A.R.E. Officer. The program was initially presented to Elementary students but has expanded to include Middle and High School. In 1993, the police department began a "Bicycle Patrol Unit". The program has been in effect for five years and currently utilizes two marked police bicycles and has a staff of five officers assigned to the unit.
The Village of Washingtonville police officers must complete many hours of classroom and field training instruction each year. The Village of Washingtonville Police Department, by working together with our community through teamwork, is striving to make our community crime and drug free.
