Living the Creed - a personal interpretation of the Civitan Creed by Western Rockingham Civitan member Linda Berry
I AM CIVITAN: as old as life, as young as the rainbow, as endless as time.
Simply put…anyone who cares about their community and is willing to use their time and effort to make it a better place to live can be a Civitan. Western Rockingham Civitans was chartered in September of 2002 by a small group of caring citizens who saw an opportunity to share their civic pride and make a difference in their community.
MY HANDS do the work of the world and reach out in service to others.
Civitan members are able to network their individual talents to help those in need. Lending a hand is easier when the work is shared with fellow Civitan members.
MY EARS hear the cry of children and the call throughout the world for peace, guidance, progress and unity.
As a group, we discuss ideas that we think might make a positive impact on the needs of others, especially special needs children and adults.
My MOUTH utters the call to daily duty and speaks prayers in every tongue.
In recent times, the needs of people who are sick or disabled or have just fallen on hard times is great. We pray for guidance as we seek a way to help all we can.
MY MIND teaches me respect for the law and the flag of my country.
We share our patriotism by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at every meeting. It reminds us how blessed we are to be a citizen of the United States of America. We can never thank our veterans and first responders enough for the sacrifices they make and the freedoms we enjoy.
MY SOUL knows no fear but its own unworthiness.
We put our heart and soul into every project and fundraiser knowing that no matter how big or small the deed we are helping others.
MY HOPE is for a better world through Civitan.
It is the hope of every member that together we make a difference so that our little corner of the world in Western Rockingham County is a better place to live and work and play.
MY MOTTO: Builders of Good Citizenship
We strive to encourage others to be better citizens through our actions and words.
MY BELIEF: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Luke 6: 31 and Matthew 7: 12 - The Golden Rule…a simple concept that everyone should live by.
MY PLEDGE: To practice the Golden Rule and to build upon it a better and nobler citizenship.
Living by the Civitan creed and the Golden Rule allows our members to “pay it forward” individually and as a team.
