History
In early 1942, a group of people was impressed by God to establish a place of worship in this community. Read our history and see how God has blessed in the past and continues to bless today.
A plot of land was donated by Richard and Callie Slack and the church was built by free manual labor. Materials and donations were supplied so there was no loan and no indebtedness when it was completed.
The church was organized May 3, 1942 with eight charter members. In the beginning, services were only held on the second and fourth Sundays. Beginning in August, 1942, services were held each week. The first Homecoming was held on the fourth Sunday in August, (and still is!). Our first Vacation Bible School was in June of 1943.
In November, 1948, the church voted to build four new Sunday School rooms. We heated the church with coal and wood heaters and used kerosene lamps for lighting. We had no electricity until the mid forties.
Our first full-time pastor was elected in May, 1957. In July of that year, the church voted to build a pastorium. Soon after, land for a new church building was purchased on the New Englewood Road adjoining the pastorium property. A groundbreaking service was held on August 8, 1965. In November, 1975, a dedication service was held for a new Fellowship Hall. Work began in the summer of 1996 on a new Family Life Center which includes a Fellowship Hall/Gym, Sunday School rooms and office space to fulfill the growing needs of the church.
Today, it is our goal to fulfill the great commission: to go into all the world preaching the gospel, baptizing them in the name of the Father; and to teach them to observe all the things Christ taught us. Wildwood actively supports foreign, state and local missions. We believe that we are all missionaries for Christ whether we are abroad or here at home.
Our future is exciting because of the hope that is within us! Wherever the Lord leads us--we are eagerly following. It is always our goal to grow more, to witness more, to study more, to love more and to serve more. We are a body of believers in which every member should strive to be a, "mature minister involved in ministry".
