About
The town of Willow River is located 1 hour south of Duluth and 1 1/2 hours north of the Twin Cities along I-35. Our school focuses on setting high standards for student success in academics, athletics, community service, human development.
We work to accomplish this through providing opportunities for students to learn ideas, lessons, and technology skills that will help them to become better citizens and workers, from Kindergarten through graduation.
Our History
Willow River School District has a very long history of serving the educational needs of its community, dating back to 1890. Over the years, the district has changed locations, ISD numbers, constructed new buildings, and consolidated several times with other small schools in neighboring communities.
In 1984, Moose Lake and Willow River school districts consolidated athletic teams and other activities to ensure that both districts had enough student athletes to remain competitive among the other local districts. The relationship between the two districts continues today and has become the longest running athletic cooperative among schools in the state of Minnesota.
Despite all of the changes, due in large part to the incredible and unwavering support from the community, the city of Willow River has always had its own school district.
