About Us:

Wilmerding Renewed, Inc., was formed to restore historic aspects of Wilmerding, Pennsylvania and to preserve them for the enjoyment and education of the public. The first goal of Wilmerding Renewed, Inc., is to raise funds from public and private sources to enable it to acquire and restore “The Castle.” The building formerly housed the general office of the Westinghouse Airbrake Company (“WABCO”) and the personal office of George Westinghouse. It currently is home to the George Westinghouse museum.

The Castle is a unique and historic structure. It is in the National Register of Historic Places and is recognized by the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. The building is architecturally significant and it occupies a special place in the industrial history of the world. It was the headquarters of George Westinghouse during his prolific life as an inventor and industrialist, particularly in revolutionizing railroad transportation.

The acquisition, restoration, and presentation of the Castle and other historic sites in Wilmerding will also serve as a model for urban and industrial-site planners. Wilmerding was one of the earliest planned communities in the country. There are few, if any, other sites in the country from that era that remain as “preservable” as Wilmerding. The restoration and preservation of the remaining portions of that original, planned community will be an important part of the program of Wilmerding Renewed, Inc.
