About us
The Yamhill-Carlton School District is centrally located in the northern Willamette valley between the Portland metropolitan area and the scenic Oregon coast. The district serves the 144 square miles surrounding the communities of Carlton and Yamhill which are nestled at the eastern base of the Coastal Range.
Yamhill used to be a major stagecoach stop on the way to the coast coming from Portland. Major industries in the area include several large family farms specializing in grass seed, dairy products, hazelnuts, Christmas trees, cherries, and a growing wine industry. Beverly Cleary, a famous children’s author grew up here, and wrote several books chronicling the 1950's. Y-C High School also had one of it’s graduates, Nick Kristoff, go on to win the Pulitzer prize for journalism for his reporting on the Tienamen Square massacre in China.
The district employees 108 certified, and 58 classified staff. The district serves 1200 students. We are expecting considerable growth in the coming years. Starting in the 07-08 School Year our two middle schools will be combined to form Trask Mountain Middle School. Trask Mountain Middle School will be housed in one wing of Yamhill Grade School.
