The Yoakum Lions Club was organized on July 9, 1928 with 30 charter members, under the field direction of V .H. Galloway, a field organizer for Lions International, and sponsored by the Victoria Lions Club. The first officers were L.C. Merrem, President; C.C. Crutchfield, Secretary; and Harry Thiele, Jr., Treasurer. The record shows that the first meetings were held at the St. Regis Hotel on Thursday, at 12:10 p.m. This was soon changed to Tuesday, and the Club has met on that day ever since. As the Yoakum Lions Club looks back on its past years, it has reason for pride. We can expect even greater opportunities to carry out the Lions' Motto-WE SERVE
