Our “Real Life” Approach

Our goal is to be “a real church for real life”; therefore values like authenticity and relevance are woven into the fabric of our church. The informal atmosphere, contemporary worship and cultural diversity helps build an environment where people from all walks of life converge in a dynamic expression of God’s love and power. Practical, real-life messages help to stimulate spiritual growth and the development of genuine relationships.

Relevant
“A real church for real life” means Zion is a place for people at every stage of their spiritual journey, from those just investigating whether there is a God, to those who have made following Christ the priority of their life. We don’t assume everyone believes or even knows the Bible, but we do assume everyone who comes through our doors is open to exploring it.

The challenge for us is that the Bible was written a long time ago to a people in a very different culture. The fact that we are living on the Space Coast in the twenty first century doesn’t change the message God gave centuries ago, but it does mean we need to do some work understanding its meaning and connecting it to our lives today. We are constantly working to make the message of the Bible relevant and applicable to the lives of all people. As one writer said, “Though we may be innovative with the style of ministry, we won’t alter the substance of it.”

Effective
“A real church” acknowledges both the misgivings some people have about the historic church, yet a conviction that the work Christ founded over 2000 years ago was designed and destined to change lives, families and cultures. The statement, “for real life” is a conviction that all truth is God’s truth and that it is timeless. Like a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered or a seed ready to grow, it works in every sphere of life, regardless.

One person described the church as a safe place to hear a dangerous message. It is a message that when grasped and acted on brings a joy, a peace and a life style that God blesses.

A real church is also one that strives for excellence in how we reflect the God whose handiwork inspires awe and admiration with every sunset. We know we can’t be effective as representatives of our awesome God, unless we reflect this excellence in all we do.

Authentic
A real church for real life means we aren’t interested in being a church where people get together for an inspiring service, yet never move beyond the casual relationships of an auditorium. But to do that requires an investment in “doing life together” and the rewards of learning to be genuine with God, with ourselves and with others.

Many in our culture have been shattered by broken relationships and the miscarriages of life. Zion is designed to be a place of healing and restoration, as much as it is a place of growth and challenge. A healthy church provides an atmosphere where we can be who we are, where we are.

Life
In the Bible Jesus said, “My purpose is to give life in all its fullness”. To be a life giving church means we are committed to reaching those who long for that live transforming relationship Jesus offers. We want to help people grow and mature spiritually. We desire to inspire followers of Christ to express their love for God in worship. We also recognize that the second half of the Great Commandment is to not only love God, but to love and care for people. Finally we want to equip and provide opportunities to serve others in ways that are consistent with our individual passions and design.
