The mission of the Bedford Public Library is to select, acquire, organize and provide access to information resources, programs and services that support and enrich personal lives, careers and businesses in response to community needs.

History:
The Bedford Public Library was opened in June 30, 1964. It was located on Bedford Road in a small rented house. During the first month of operation, 450 books were checked out from the collection of 2,500 books.

In 1968, the Library moved to a larger house on Forest Ridge Drive. In 1972 a new City Hall was constructed nearby and the library moved the collection of 19,800 items to the first floor of the new facility.

Construction of the present 17,000 square foot building on L. Don Dodson Drive was completed in 1987. At that time the library collection included 54,645 books, 3,250 paperbacks, and 3,417 audiovisual materials.

The Bedford Public Library continues to grow and currently has a monthly circulation of approximately 30,000 items and a collection of more than 110,000 items.
