Ilan S. Weisberg MD, MAc, is the Chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at New York Presbyterian - Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Weill Cornell Medical College.  Before returning to NYP, Dr. Weisberg was a member of the medical faculty at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, where he focused his clinical practice on the management of complex liver disease. During that time, he served as the training program director for the gastroenterology fellowship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Morningside, and West.  Dr. Weisberg graduated with honors from Cornell University with a concentration in molecular biology and plant biology, after which he earned an MSc in molecular genetics from McGill University and an MD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He then completed a residency in internal medicine at Columbia University Medical College followed by a gastroenterology fellowship at the Weill Cornell campus of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital as well as an additional fellowship in Transplant Hepatology, also at New York Presbyterian. Dr. Weisberg's research interests focus on cirrhosis, viral hepatitis, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and alcohol associated liver diseases with particular interest in health care disparity and outcomes research.  Dr. Weisberg has been recognized by his students, patients, and colleagues with multiple teaching and clinical practice awards. He has spoken across the country as a visiting professor and guest lecturer and has been a mentor to dozens of physicians new to gastroenterology and liver disease.  Dr. Weisberg has authored many peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters and has served as a reviewer for multiple gastroenterology and hepatology journals.
