Frontier Civitan History

Founded in 1974, the Frontier Club became the first all women's club to be charted in Civitan International. Our club now has over 30 members and focuses on community service, leadership, working with our Junior Civitan clubs, and fellowship.  Our members have served on the District and International levels, and are dedicated to continuing to be a resource for the community and to positively impacting the lives of others.  

Civitan International History

Civitan International is a worldwide association of local community service clubs.  Civitan was founded in Birmingham, Alabama in 1917.  Its founder and first president was Dr. Courtney W. Shropshire, a prominent Birmingham physician. The mission of Civitan International is to strengthen local communities by providing a network of volunteer clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs, with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities.  There are approximately 40,000 Civitan members in 28 countries throughout the world, including Europe, Asia and Africa. 

Civitan International's flagship project is the UAB Civitan International Research Center. The Center is the result of a $20 million commitment by the Civitan Foundation, which conducts research into the causes of developmental disabilities and provides clinical services and programs for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
