Mission: To unite and celebrate people of diverse cultures through shared dance to fight hunger in Guilford County.
Why Did We Start Hope Fest ?
The levels of hunger in Guilford County are considered Extreme with Guilford County still one of the top 10 counties in the country with the most food insecurities. In fact, 1 in 4 children in our county are food insecure, meaning they don’t know where their next meal will come from. The national avg. is 1 in 7 so that really proves the continued crisis in Guilford County. Local food pantries have reported more than a 24% increase in the number of families requesting assistance just in the first 6 months of 2022, And 26% of these families were new clients who had never used a food pantry before. This ongoing crisis led members of First Lutheran Church to start Hope Fest 4 Hunger 6 years ago, which has now grown into a community-based team. The goal of Hope Fest is to celebrate diversity and community while raising money for hunger with 100% of proceeds staying local. In the past 6 years, Hope Fest has raised $190,000, which has significantly impacted our community and hunger programs.
