Looking for a family friendly way to kick off your summer fun. Look no further than Smith Mountain Lake State Park. We'll have lots of activities for you and your family to enjoy throughout the entire Memorial Day weekend. Some of the activities include a campfire, programs about our local wildlife, and kid-friendly crafts offered at our swimming beach. Our beach opens at 11 a.m. every day. Programs are free, but regular parking and beach fees apply.

11:30 a.m - 12:30 p.m: Memorial Day Weekend - Amazing Monarchs at Under tent below beach pavilion
Explore the life cycle of butterflies. Learn what is special about the monarch butterfly. What do they like to eat.

2:00 p.m - 3:00 p.m: Memorial Day Weekend - Follow the Tracks at Under tent below beach pavilion

3:30 p.m - 5:30 p.m: Memorial Day Weekend - Beach Kids: Patriotic Crafts at Under tent below beach pavilion
Take some time to get out of the hot sun and join our park nature interpreter under the tent for some fun crafts. Memorial Day is a time to give thanks to all the brave men and women who fought to give us our freedom.

5:30 p.m - 6:00 p.m: Memorial Day Weekend: Beach Bubbles at Beach
Look for the park interpreter on the sidewalk between the pavilion and sand at the swimming beach to have some fun making bubbles.
