Mission Statement:
The mission of the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra is to enrich our community by providing high quality traditional and contemporary symphonic music and educational experiences.
About Us:
Featuring some of Southern California's finest, professional musicians, Long Beach Symphony is a beloved cultural institution celebrating its 80th season. The Symphony performs six Classical concerts throughout the year at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center Terrace Theater as well as five POPS! musical dinner picnics events in the newly renovated Long Beach Arena's Pacific Ballroom.
The Symphony also serves the surrounding community with a sequential and comprehensive music education program reaching over 24,000 students with access to music at their schools, local libraries, hospitals, and community centers as well as school ensembles and youth concerts. In recent years the Symphony has also offered a critically-acclaimed, and free community Chamber series.
The 80th Anniversary Classical Series will showcase some of the greatest works in Classical literature performed by world-class musicians and soloists. Early arrival is encouraged and audiences relish grabbing a drink with friends around cozy fire pits outside the theater.
Long Beach Symphony has benefited from a successful and storied past, including being the first major regional orchestra to appoint a woman as its Music Director in 1989 - JoAnn Falletta. The Symphony has also gained international stature with its most recent Maestro, Enrique Arturo Diemecke, who brought original compositions, world premieres, and celebrated international soloists to the Symphony's repertoire.
Currently, the Symphony is undergoing a Music Director search and will play host to six, nationally-renown guest conductors in the 2014-2015 80th season.
Long Beach Symphony POPS! concerts are fantastic orchestra dinner picnics featuring 300 dinner tables of 10. Groups are encouraged to bring picnics and favorite libations or to arrange for catering at their tables before and during the performance. A new Bistro section caters to smaller groups of 4 with bartender service, signature drinks and a dance floor. Additional seating is also available in the loge.
